Introduction:
I wrote this essay on October, 2013 and it’s one of my assignment this semester. This assignment is talking about death and dying after I have read the book <Tuesday with Morrie>, I also went online to research and found examples and evidence to prove my ideas.
Reflection:
This assignment spent me a lot of time, I went to find examples from internet, and I think this is the most difficult part of this assignment because it’s not easy to find examples which is connected to your main ideas. My examples are not connected to my ideas well, sometimes it doesn’t make any senses. But I think my best part of this assignment is my fresh ideas about the death. I have learned how to write an argument essay. If let me do it again, I will spend more time on connecting my ideas and my examples.

Death &
Dying
Part I: Introduction
After I have read the story of Tuesday with Morrie, I found that the death is important to people because when we are dying, we can know what is the most important to us. In my opinion, the death is very mysterious, we cannot know if there have the hell and the paradise, and there were many strange events happened before. What’s more, I have already know that the life is to let love between people, love can make people know more and learn more, the death can teach people how to live.
Part II: What I want to Learn
I want to know the meaning of death to every religion because there are many different kinds of people in the world and their religion are not the same, and their ideas must be different and I want to find why there are many different thought is about the death or maybe there are similar. I have three questions, they are what is some religions’ ideas to the death in the world? Which religions’ ideas to the death is similar? Which ideas are close to our life?
Part III: The Story of My Research
In this part I will use three resources, the first one is my interview about Jorden, the second one is the quote from the paper that got from Mr. Ward and the last one is a quote from the website that I have found.
I have an interview with Jorden on October 25, 2013. My important questions are what is your ideas about the death? Where will you be buried and why? What will you do if you have only one day? If you only have three things, which will you choose? Do you believe the hell and do you think you will go to the hell or the paradise?
The important quote of his words is “I think the death is a natural thing that all of us have to meet one day, and I want to be buried on a place no one can escape. If I have one day to live, I will do the craziest things I have never done before. If I can only choose three things when I was living on one lonely island, I will choose knife, lighter and girlfriend. I believe the hell, and I think I will go to the paradise because I’m kind and friendly.”
I have learned from this interview that Jorden may have his religion because he believes there has the hell and paradise, he must have religions because most of people who believed this have religion. I think the religion is good for people because the idea of religion, and that will support us and give us encouragement for our life. So we cannot give up religion in our life.
Morrie's belief about the topic is he thought that when people was close to the death, he will find the importance of our life because he had no more time on this world, and he will learn more about the world. ‘He said learn how to die and you learn how to live. I have learned from reading the book, when a person was close to the death, he would find the true meaning of life, when he was preparing for the death, he must have known the life, so he can leave the world quietly without caring.’ I believe his words because it was said by a person would die and why he wanted to tell a lie.
I have found the website by google because that is easy to understand, http://www.victorzammit.com/articles/religions3.html.
These is my important information from this website:
‘The death conduct on earth – how we behave - will determine where in the afterlife you will eventually end up. That there is a hell for the wicked ones – especially the Catholic Church still teaches that hellfire is for eternity and there is heaven for those who behaved well. Also, the Catholic Church claims there is an afterlife state which is between heaven and hell the Catholic Church calls ‘purgatory.’ Catholic theology also states that sinners can confess their sins to Catholic priests and those sins are forgiven for ever – it does not matter how grave the sins might be – including genocide – if the sinner truly repents, he will be forgiven.
Buddhism have the notion that individuals do not possess eternal souls. Instead of eternal souls, individuals consist of a "bundle" of habits, memories, sensations, desires, and so forth, which together delude one into thinking that he or she consists of a stable, lasting self. Despite its transitory nature, this false self hangs together as a unit, and even reincarnates in body after body. In Buddhism, as well as in Hinduism, life in a corporeal body is viewed negatively, as the source of all suffering. Hence, the goal is to obtain release. In Buddhism, this means abandoning the false sense of self so that the bundle of memories and impulses disintegrates, leaving nothing to reincarnate and hence nothing to experience pain.
Buddhism think the spirit of the departed goes through a process lasting forty-nine days that is divided into three stages called "bardos." At the conclusion of the bardo, the person either enters nirvana or returns to earth for rebirth.
According to the tenets of the Muslim faith, death is the complete end of physical life and the beginning of a period of rest until the day of resurrection when Allah judges the living and the dead. Many Muslims believe that the righteous are able to see visions of God after death and that the wicked see visions of hell. Except for these possible visions of heaven or hell, Muslims believe the soul remains in a kind of "soul sleep" until Judgment Day. When the Day of Judgment arrives, everyone is judged according to their deeds in life. Many Muslims believe that non-Muslims can attain heaven only after a period of purification in the fires of purgatory.’
According to these resource, I have learned that the people live in this world should know what is important to them, we came to this world because we have chance to learn this world, once we know how to die and we also know how to live. According to these three religions’ words, I can know that people’s behavior is important after he died because it will influence the visions.
Part IV: Reflections on My Research
I think that I have learned that how to learn systematic knowledge because when we were reading the book, we just remembered the story and important words, but we haven’t organized these knowledge. So from this work, I can know that the death is related to our life.
Things that surprised me the most is Morrie is a person that make me feel surprised, I was admired his ideas and his heart, he could be calm when he knew he would die and he also taught Mitch about his knowledge, that helped he prepare for dying with a long time. I think that education was a chance to make him do not be disappointed for his life so much. What’s more, I think that the Buddhism is special because it said the goal is to obtain release, this means abandoning the false sense of self so that the bundle of memories and impulses disintegrates, leaving nothing to reincarnate and hence nothing to experience pain.
Finally, I think my experience of writing this paper will affect my choices in the future, I may will change my choices in the future, I may will die when there are no others around me and I maybe will choose cremation.
